Dr Tamara Petrakova

Dr Tamara Petrakova graduated from Kiev Medical University with honours in 1979. She then completed a Ph.D. course at the Ukrainian Research Institute of Endocrinology in 1981.

Dr Tamara started using acupuncture in 1983 and devoted many years to further her education in the acupuncture field. She was taught acupuncture by professors from Beijing (1989), Seoul (1991-1995) and Japan (1995, 1999), and she also studied acupuncture in Kiev (Ukraine), Moscow and St Petersburg (Russia) and Almaty (Kazakhstan).

During 1983-2004, Dr Tamara worked as a medical doctor, specialising in acupuncture, in Kiev and Moscow clinics. She gained more than 25 years experience in acupuncture pain management and the treatment of different diseases and medical conditions.

In the last 20 years, Dr Tamara was also involved in:

  • teaching Korean-style acupuncture in Russia, India and many European countries such as Sweden, Denmark,     Holland, Greece and Cyprus.
  • the scientific editing of books on acupuncture (she has currently prepared around 20 published books).
  • presentation of lectures and reports at international acupuncture congresses in Delhi (1991), Sofia (1995), New York (1996), Beijing (1997), Copenhagen (2001), Berlin (2002) and Brussels (2003).

Dr Tamara Petrakova held the position of Vice-President of the International Su Jok (Korean) Acupuncture Associate (1993-2004) and chief-editor of Onnuri Medicine Magazine (2000-2004). She was also one of the founders of the Su Jok (Korean) education program in Moscow which has, since it was formed in the early nineties, educated 20,000 medical doctors throughout Russia and Eastern Europe. 

Dr Tamara has lived in Australia since 2005. In 2008 she completed the 3-year acupuncture course in the Australian College of Natural Medicine. As an acupuncturist, she is registered in the Australian Natural Therapist Association (ANTA) and the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
